The Porseleinberg brand represents a commitment to showcasing extreme terroir and minimalist winemaking from this unique Swartland site.

The vineyard, perched on a rugged outcrop just south of Riebeek-Kasteel, was acquired by Boekenhoutskloof Winery in 2009, to secure a reliable source of quality Syrah. This quickly evolved into an autonomous, site-specific endeavour focused purely on an authentic expression of the character of this mountain vineyard.

The site features a brutal Mica-schist soil (or simply "Schist soil"), making it challenging land to farm, which contrasts with the delicacy suggested by the name Porseleinberg (likely originating from an abandoned kaolin mine on the property). The philosophy is rooted in uncomplicated grape-growing and minimalist winemaking, prioritising the expression of the terroir's elemental nature.

The resulting wine is a Syrah of incredible focus, purity, and energy, produced using 100% whole-cluster Syrah, fermented in concrete tanks, and aged in a combination of foudre and concrete eggs, with an emphasis on structure (tannin) over fruit flavours.

Reflecting its authenticity, each Porseleinberg label is meticulously printed at the winery on a restored, 1940's Heidelberg Press.
